about

Max Aurora & The Southern Lights burst open with a euphoric bittersweet indie rock gem “How I Missed Home”. Longing for escapism during Melbourne’s lockdown, Max wrote this song immediately after watching a documentary about one of the youngest people to sail around the world, Laura Dekker from the Netherlands. With Laura’s permission, the band filmed a vibrant and quirky music video using footage from her trip.

lyrics

You say I'm too young
But time has ceased to matter
I dance on my sea legs

And even when the wind stops
I like it out here
And I've nearly won

But I can't stop thinking
How I missed New Zealand
No I can't stop thinking
How I missed New Zealand
But I can't go back through the Torres Straight
My sails were shredded in the waves

I'll take my time
Repairs I'll make
And in this ache
I'll think of where I was born
A golden bay
Beyond the wake

But I can't stop thinking
How I missed New Zealand
No I can't stop thinking
How I missed New Zealand
Can you take me back through the Torres Straight?
Underneath the ocean spray

But I can't stop missing Aotearoa
No I can't stop missing Aotearoa
Could you take me back through the Torres Straight?
The sail swings in the change

Hold fast into the fray
So what happens when it's done?

Turn away, turn away
